Credit for Non-Yale Summer Abroad Programs

The Summer Abroad Credit application must be completed in order to earn transfer credit for study abroad. Retroactive applications for transfer credit for coursework completed abroad will not be accepted. You must apply before going abroad and by the relevant deadline

Before applying, review the Choosing a Program page for important information and considerations.

The Summer Abroad Credit application period opens on December 15. All applications for Summer Abroad Credit will be reviewed after the March 1st deadline.

Application Process for Non-Yale Summer Abroad Programs

Applying to study abroad in the summer is a 3-step process, which may be completed simultaneously:

  • Apply for admission to your intended program: You must apply directly to the university or program abroad you would like to attend. You can access the programs' applications directly from their websites. It is your responsibility to ensure all application materials are submitted to your desired program by the relevant deadline. Program application deadlines may be earlier or later than Yale’s application deadline.

  • Apply for transfer credit for Non-Yale Summer Programs Abroad: To apply to earn transfer credit for your participation in a Non-Yale Summer Abroad program, click on the "Apply" button above and submit this application for credit by the appropriate deadline. Late applications for study abroad credit cannot be accepted. You do not need to have already been admitted to your program when you apply for Yale credit.

  • Learn if you are eligible for ISA funding, and if applicable, apply for the International Summer Award: You must be earning Yale credit if you intend to use ISA funding for your summer study abroad program. This means that you must complete both the Summer Abroad Credit application and the ISA application by the appropriate deadlines. For more information, visit the ISA website.

Application Deadlines:

  • Your Program's Application deadline: Check their website!
  • Summer Abroad Credit application deadline: March 1st
  • International Summer Award application deadline: May 1st

Petition for Programs not on Yale's Designated List

The Summer Abroad Credit application is only for Non-Yale programs that have already been designated by Yale Study Abroad as options for credit. If you would like to participate in a program that is not currently listed on the Study Abroad website, do not complete the Summer Abroad Credit application. Instead, please review the process to submit a Petition for a Program not on Yale's Designated List. You will be able to select a second and third choice program from the designated list as part of your petition.
